Across Country Quad Bike

Place: Franz Josef, New Zealand
Visited: 3rd December 2016

Franz Josef Glacier Village -  average annual rainfall is estimated to be around 4 meters.
With that much rainfall happening all year round, it can certainly change your plans, as most activities aren't suitable in all weather.

So what is there to do that can get you some adrenaline pumping at a reasonable price?

Across Country Quadbikes Adventure has to be on your list! Heavy rainfall and dreadful weather? No worries, it's even better!

These guys surely know how to have fun and make the most of a 2hour+ adventure in the Glacier Valley.

Costing $160 for the driver and $70 for the passenger (an advantage is that they let you swap whenever you want, and train both people!).

Booking our activity for 15:00 on a Saturday, we reported to the office 15mins before to fill out some agreement, met Sarah who gave us a short briefing, walked across the street, and made our way to start line.

Map to the Quad Trail

They provided us with all the wet weather gear, helmet with GoPro mounts (!! very useful), along with a 400cc 4x4 Quads which where in good condition. Although you don't need to have a driving licence or experience on Quad bikes, they will put you on a trial run to make sure that you can handle the bike and the terrain ahead of you.
Being a big group, we had 2 guides to ensure everyone's safety, both of which were very friendly, funny, very informative and a good sense of humour.
Passing through mud, river beds, rainforest and glacier valley, we stopped for a 10minute break next to a Valley, had one of the guides telling us about some history and myths of the area and the Glacier itself, made sure we had our pictures taken, and made our way back to town. Once again they stopped during the trek to make sure we get our cool photos taken, ensured our safety, and headed back.

Whether you are a newbie on quad bikes or have some basic offroad experience, this Across Country Quad Bike Adventure will surely make your day! On the other hand if you've driven quad bikes on rough terrain before, or have good experience in offroading, you might find the route to be slightly boring due to the easy tracks. An amazing thing would have been to be seperated into groups depending on your offroad skills, rather than spending the whole track following someone slow, however it is still not something to miss in the area for a 'cheap' attraction to do, rain or shine, and an opportunity to get a closer feel to the magnificence of the place.
