Fox & Franz Heliservices

Place: Franz Josef, New Zealand
Visited: 8th December 2016

Honestly speaking?

First time we saw the Glacier at Franz Josef, we thought it was just a big joke, and were very disappointed at barely seeing any ice (contrary to what the pictures portray).

However, after hearing that sky views are a must in the area, as opposed to the free walk, we wanted to experience this first hand. Booking a Twin Glacier Helicopter Flight with Franz & Fox Heliservices, we picked a cloudless day, and met the very friendly people at reception. A short briefing on safety, a four-minute walk to the Helipad, and after seeing many helicopters flying in and out and getting all excited, it was finally our turn! Taking off, having a clear full glass window, we could not ask for a better informative pilot, and already within the first minute of flying, the scenery was spectacular! It felt like a completely different world!

Franz Josef Glacier by Helicopter

The HIGHLIGHT was a 5-minute snow landing, where the pilot offered to take pictures for us, we got asked to swap seats with the other couple on the way back, and stayed in the front row, viewing the astonishing scenery of snow, glaciers and mountains.

THIS is how you see the glaciers!

From beginning to end, all staff was professional and friendly, and we felt very safe amongst very well experienced people. The pilot provided sufficient information along the 25-minute flight of the glaciers and the surroundings, and it was truly an impeccable and unforgettable experience to view what the West Coast of New Zealand has to offer!

Stunning Scenery
An absolute must-see!

Dealing with these guys on a regular basis via phone (we work at front-line reception), we book a good amount of tours, and they have always helped and listened to the clients needs. I strongly recommend Franz and Fox Heliservices, which are also the cheapest in the area!
Cheap does not mean bad!
On the contrary, we believe the experience is not one to be missed, and unfortunately, within a good few years, there will not be much left of the Glacier! So do it while you can!
